    Edward Bland Wollstonecraft was born on 29th February 1735/36 in Bishopsgate, London, the son of Charles Wollstonecraft and Britannia (nee Wood). Charles Wollstonecraft was a son of Edward Wollstonecraft, weaver of Spitalfields. Edward Wollstonecraft's son by his second marriage, Edward John Wollstonecraft, was the father of Mary Wollstonecraft, pioneer of Women's Rights and mother of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (nee Godwin).

    Mary Wollstonecraft was Edward Bland Wollstonecraft's half-cousin.

    Edward Bland Wollstonecraft was an officer in the East India Company's Service. After his last voyage he settled to live with his family in Southampton. He died on 31st July 1795 at his home in Gloucester Square, Southampton. On 3rd November 1761, at St Mildred, Bread Street, London, he married Lydia Cooke.
